Professor Naismith is Professor of Early Medieval English History at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Corpus Christi College. His award-winning research explores how money, trade, power and society developed in England during the early Middle Ages. Combining evidence from coins, archaeology and historical documents, he brings fresh insight into the lives of the people who shaped early English history.
Author of several acclaimed books, including Money and Power in Anglo-Saxon England and Making Money in the Early Middle Ages, Professor Naismith is renowned for making complex historical themes both accessible and engaging.

Seven Kings, including the first “Kings of England” are traditionally thought to have been crowned at Kingston Upon Thames. Before All Saints Church was built, the site was an important estate of the West Saxon Kings and host to Royal coronations.
In recognition of this unique heritage, All Saints Kingston has a display of seven spectacular contemporary embroidery panels based on each of the Kings, created by award winning contemporary embroiderer Jacky Puzey with embellishments by Beatrice Mayfield, contemporary hand embroiderer, based on an original design by Sophia Pearson. The embroideries will be open for viewing before and after the lecture.
