Kingston Choral Society’s latest concert is titled; Romantic Visions
Schumann: Nachtlied
Beethoven: Coriolan Overture (orchestral piece)
Brahms: Schicksalslied
Mendelssohn: Die Erste Walpurgisnacht
Romantic themes of heroism, idealism, the imagination, and dreams inspire tonight’s music. Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny) contrasts the bliss of the gods with the sorrows of the human condition, while Schumann’s Nachtlied evokes the serene world of sleep. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture portrays the fall of a once supreme hero and Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht is a dramatic musical rendition of the clash between Druidic tradition and Christianity.
