SUMMARY:Public Embroidery Talk
DESCRIPTION:Please book your free ticket here via this link https://www.ticketsource.com/all-saints-church-kingston/t-rzpynnr\nEnjoy an afternoon viewing of the 10th Century Kings with a talk on the history of the Saxon Kings and the creation of the embroidery panels.\nSeven Kings\, including the first “Kings of England” are traditionally thought to have been crowned at Kingston Upon Thames. Before All Saints Church was built\, the site was an important estate of the West Saxon Kings and host to Royal coronations. Our talk will tell this significant heritage story through the series of seven spectacular and unique embroidery panels (six of which are currently displayed) touching on the Saxon history of the area\, the reigns of the Kings and characters depicted\, and the incredible talent that has gone into the design and execution of the panels themselves.\nEmbroidery panels have a long tradition of being used as symbols of power or to tell a story to enforce a message. Such works can be found in the great houses of the nobility or wealthy merchants\, royal palaces and of course\, in churches. Join us as we delve into these amazing works of textile art.\nThe panels are being created by award winning contemporary embroiderer Jacky Puzey. Jacky’s speciality of machine embroidery is further embellished with hand embroidery and beading by Beatrice Mayfield\, contemporary hand embroiderer and visiting lecturer at the Royal School of Needlework.\nOur embroideries headlined an edition of the national “embroidery magazine”. Read the article here https://allsaintskingston.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Embroidery-Magazine-full-Article-March-2025.pdf Come and see them in person!\nFor further details\, please visit our website https://allsaintskingston.co.uk/the-seven-saxon-kings-embroidery-project

SUMMARY:Faith Talk - Tackling Modern Slavery
DESCRIPTION:Modern Slavery Faith Talk\nAll Saints Kingston is hosting this important talk on Modern Slavery on Wednesday 20th May at 6.30pm. Doors and bar open from 6.15pm.\nThe event is part of our “Faith Talk” series which has built up a following\, attracting expert speakers and knowledgeable panellists to debate the Christian response in the “public square” on the big issues of today. Our talks have been quoted as “Faith Based\, not Faith Biased” and are public town hall style events with questions invited (and encouraged!) from audience members. As always\, the talk will be recorded and available to watch on our YouTube channel after the event.\nOur main speaker is Jiska Stieler\, women’s Hub Co-ordinator at Voices of Hope\, a Kingston based charity supporting women and children\, especially those facing gender-based violence\, poverty\, and systemic disadvantage\, to rebuild their health\, confidence\, and long-term independence. The talks are ticketed so we can keep a tally of numbers but totally free of charge.\nPlease book your free tickets here https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/all-saints-church-kingston/faith-talks-modern-slavery/2026-05-20/18:30/t-qmjrjmq

SUMMARY:Cross Stitch Craft Group
DESCRIPTION:Join Ariadne’s thread every other Thursday 10.30am-12.30pm in the café area (dates may vary\, please check our website calendar for confirmation).\nA large embroidery frame will be set up in the café area for members of the group to work on the design together. New participants are welcome to join in. No experience is necessary\, all needles and threads will be provided. Ariadne’s thread hopes that the completed tapestry will one day find a suitable home in a museum of Ukrainian cultural heritage.\nAriadne’s Thread Group was set up to provide access to culture\, heritage and social activities to vulnerable communities in particular those displaced by conflicts and those with disabilities. The current piece being worked on is “Blue Cornflowers”\, a tapestry which began life as a participatory needlework for local Ukrainian women in Kingston on 23 May 2022. What started as a regular activity during Ariadne’s Thread’s Monday meetings at Baking Ideas in Tolworth\, very quickly developed into a broader collaboration with refugees stitching smaller pieces from across Europe. This is an ongoing project. Half of the tapestry is completed and so far over 160 people from different backgrounds\, ages and abilities have contributed to this cross-stitching effort.\nFor more information and contact details please go to http://www.ariadnesthreadgroup.org or magdalena@ariadnesthreadgroup.org
