Calling all Choirs and Singers!
There is a very good reason Handel’s Messiah is so popular with choirs and choral societies: it is, quite simply, one of the greatest oratorios, replete with fine melodies and memorable moments. We are offering you the chance to sing this great masterpiece in the beautiful surroundings of All Saints Church Kingston in our next “Come and Sing” on Saturday 5 October.
Naturally we won’t be able to sing everything in a single day; but we have edited it down to ensure, so far as possible, that all the favourite choruses and several of the favourite solos will be included in the evening performance. Whether you are a seasoned veteran, or approaching the work for the first time, we are confident that you will have a day to remember.
The day will be conducted by David Condry, Director of Music at All Saints, and accompanied on the church’s famous Frobenius organ. Solos will be sung by members of the church’s cathedral-style choir.
The format of the day will be as follows:
2.00 pm Registration
2.30 pm Rehearsal
4.00 pm Break
4.15 pm Rehearsal
5.00 pm End of afternoon session
6.00 pm Doors open for evening session
7.00 pm Performance (with interval)
Tickets, available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/all-saints-church-kingston, cost £20 and include free refreshments (tea/coffee plus cake) during the afternoon break. All proceeds will be used to support the musical life of the church.
We will be using the Novello Watkins Shaw edition of Messiah, but don’t worry if your copy is the Prout edition – there aren’t any significant differences. And if you haven’t got a copy, you can hire one for the day for only £5 (please indicate on the booking form if you want to take advantage of this opportunity).
